Glory - Glory Lagoon 42 Log day 20- “Glory out”
Last day at sea! I think I can now safely say I have sailed across an ocean. It probably doesn’t mean anything to anyone else but it means something to me. It has taken a lot of work to get this boat from Les Sables D’Olonnes, France where I took delivery on September 1st to here. The crossing was in some ways the easy part. Thanks to all the folks at the World Cruising for putting on a great show. It was all worth it. Maybe I’ll go get a tattoo or something...Glen.

Glory - Glory Lagoon 42 log Day 19- salt life
We carried a water bladder with 160 litres of water in case our water maker stopped working. Today we will empty that water and use it to scrub some of the salt off the boat- the stuff is everywhere. Also we will re-organize our provisions. Some stuff will stay and other stuff ( like canned artichokes- yuck) will be given to the ARC for redistribution in St Lucia. We are still fishing but just for sport. Yesterday we lost 3 really big fish. One at least was a Marlin as we saw it jump 3 times. Twice the line snapped and third one had a hook straighten. Time to upgrade the tackle...although when we are sailing along at 7 knots with no quick way to slow the boat down the odds are very heavily in Mr Fish’s favour, even running heavy tackle. We just had dolphins playing off the bow...only the.

Glory - Glory lagoon 42 log day 18- Sailors grog
I like rum- once again I’ll mention my favourite - Admiral Rodney...St Lucia’s finest. And the thought of it keeps my sails pressed to the west. But alas there is no rum on board and my crew does not get their allotted daily share.Tea however is a different story. That’s the real sailor’s drink. Day and night we drink the stuff. There is no better companion on a lonely night watch then a mug of the hot stuff.(Then you turn off all the lights on board and sit at the back of the boat and watch the phosherus in the boat wake. Trippy!)Glen.

Glory - lagoon 42 log Day 17- sunrise shift
Today marks my 17th day at sea. I started this day like every other day: a beautiful sunrise and a good cup of French press coffee. Selfishly I do I the 6-9 AM shift each day ( and the 2100-2400...my crew then covers the day in 3 hour 1 man shifts and at night in pairs at 3 hours each: we are a total crew of 5). This allows me to greet each day and also to put the boat to bed each night. It also gives me 6 hours on uninterrupted sleep - theoretically! The sunrise is my reward each day. I think its nice that the reward comes early before the day even starts. It assumes that I am deserving. With St Lucia only 500 miles away and the end in sight we are appreciating each moment all the more. I sure will miss these views.Glen.

Glory - Glory lagoon 42 log Day 16- cats?
Overall I would say I am happy and even impressed with the Lagoon 42. So far I have had no major issues ( knock on faux wood veneer) and she has handled the seas without issue. She is difficult to hand steer as there is no real feedback at the helm and as I mentioned she is noisy. And the powerful main is of limited use direct downwind as she can’t be be winged out very far before hitting back stays. She does move underfoot quite a bit with her own unique motion ( giving new meaning to the word “catwalk”).I was surprised at how few cats there are doing the ARC this year versus monohull. Perhaps it is better to be a small cork floating “in” the ocean rather than a small cork floating “on” the ocean but once I am swinging at anchor in the Carib I’m sure the cat will justify herself.Note.
