Dobro Dani - log day 15 - Canadianisms

As Dobro Dani is a Canadian sailboat with an all crew Canadian we thought you might like to know some of the Canadianisms we use on board her.Double Double -this is our on-board communications wifi system which allows all the communications to talk to each other. In Canada, this is how we order a coffee with 2 cream and 2 sugarMileage Countdown - once we hit the double digits (99 or less), we refer to each one of significance to a hockey player from home for example/ Wayne Gretzky is 99, so rather than say we have 99nm to go we say we have a Wayne Gretzky.Hope you enjoyed a few of the Canadianisms we use on board to help keep us close to home while we are so far away.Dani the Dolphin. read more...

Dobro Dani - log 14 - Fish On!

After celebrating our 1/2 way mark with a lovely roast lamb dinner, we gave thanks to Neptune with a small bottle of champagne. Through out the course of leg 1 and leg 2 up until now we have been trying to catch a nice fish to eat. Every day the guys put out their lures in anticipation, and each evening the lures come in, untouched.Jason, (skipper) who has done the Vic-Maui twice decided to take matters into his own hands and make himself a lure with Quality Street candy wrappers. He put the line out with the candy wrappers later afternoon, and no more than an hour after we thanked Neptune, we had a “fish-on” attached to Jason’s lure. Dobro Dani - log day 13 - Almost to the 1/2 way mark

Today we have been getting excited and planning for our 1/2 way party celebration, as we expect to reach the 1/2 way mark some time later this evening. Dobro Dani - Log day 12 - Stad Amsterdam Abeam

So we have been sailing out here in Leg two for a week now with no other boats around, when all of a sudden what should appear, but a Tall ship named Stad Amsterdam. We contacted them on the radio asking if we could come a little closer for a look and so have us permission to take a closer look. It was quite something to see this ship come up from behind us, we felt like we had literally gone back in time. This was the highlight of our day.Dani the Dolphin. read more...

Dobro Dani - log day 6-11 - Been Busy Sailing

Sorry for the lack of correspondence but the crew on board Dobro Dani have been busy sailing the ocean blue. We made it to Mindelo at 8:16pm on November 21 and so was able to spend a few days there prior to our departure for St. Vincent on November 25. At the prize giving we were very excited to learn that we came in first place on Leg one - not bad for an all amateur crew.
