Quin - quin gibraltar to las palmas

GIBRALTAR to GRAN CANARIAWe tried to leave Gib on the 2nd November , with a forcast of Force 4 on the nose , once we got out there we had 25 /30 knots on the nose making a speed of 1.2 knots over the water , it was pitiful . So decided to turn back and wait for better conditions . It would of took us a day or more just to get out of the Gibratar straits.FINALLY WE ARE OFFThursday 6th ---- we?re off .Our trip started with fairly light winds , so we motored sailed for 2 days , then we had a wicked sail with winds gusting up to 30 knots , huge big waves behind us . John and Ian are on one watch , me and Nick on the other with Mac floating between the two.Ian & John were having great fun surfing down waves at 11.6 knots , while I was having problems staying in my bunk , we were rolling. read more...

Quin - Day 1

Hi All,I expect you are wondering how we are getting on . Well we are doing OK so sar. We has a superb send off from Gran Canaria. Hundreds of people came to send us off. There were bands, fireworks and flags. The weather was perfect and it made a great spectacle as over 200 yachts left the marina like wasps from a nest. The winds were light at the start and have been behind us so far. Towards  the south of the island they picked up and blew 28k for a while. During the night we could see yachts lights all around us, but we now only have sight of about 12 We have just taken our noon position and will submit it with this report. At present we are averaging 6 knots and heading 218 degrees, with full main and the genny poled out (goose winged). The temperature is about 26 degrees and the. read more...

Quin - Quin Day 2

Such a beautiful day , making slow progress at the moment in very light winds , flat sea , so we're not playing today , Sammie's going sunbathing , John's Gone Fishing , and there's alot of snoring noises coming from down below.Saw a couple of ships last night , one was a huge tug towing another vessel .We decided to not go out but to eat on board again tonight as Ian's cooking is so good. We are all settling down into our 4 hours on watch & 4 hours off watch , with Mac taking one of the daylight watches so we all get some play time , for sunbathing , reading , listening to music or just relaxing . An extra 2 hours  every other day just makes all the difference , something to really look forward to .lots of love to all our readers from Team Quin. read more...

Quin - quin day 3

Buenos Dias to all our friends & family, Over the last 24 hours we managed to do 100 Nautical Miles with an average speed of 4.1 knots , which is quite amazing as the winds are extremely light ,max we have had is 10knots with the majority being around 6 ish. We are goosewinged with a full main and poled out genny . We thought we might have to send Ian to quarantine as he started sneezing , the start of a cold we suspected , he also had a really bad headache a little dehydrated so we made him drink a gallon of water ( no not literally ) when it was his sleep time we let him have an extra couple of hours , and wow he's up with the larks full of energy chirpy chirpy chirpy , no cold , just think he was dehydrated .Anyway he's back to his normal happy self. Last night we had dinner. read more...
