Haerlem is a 1992 Nautor Swan 55/57 Center Cockpit sloop, named after the birthplace of captain/owner - Haarlem in the Netherlands, but using the spelling from the middle ages. A Dutch citizen resident in the US, Hendrikus, started his first cruise in May 2007 from Norway and has since notched up 7000 nautical miles, cruising to Turkey. Onboard is a truly multi-national crew, he is joined by, Douglas Strayer, a retired lawyer from Kentucky, Nigel Robertson, a commercial fisherman and diver from New Zealand who is based in Australia, and Fabio Constaza, an Italian currently on leave from the financial business in London. All keen to pursue the Atlantic crossing, their team motto is ‘Keep the hull clean, by moving constantly!’ Once they have completed the, ARC, Hendrikus is going to cruise the Islands with his family, then leave the vessel in Tortola for 4 months and later sail, Haerlem, up the East Coast to her home in Newport, RI where she will be up for sale
