Coyote 2 - day 15

Only 385 nautical miles to go! Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? I was going to say that Coyote was sailing along nicely at 9 knots under spinnaker but nothing stands still for long on this boat and I have just had the black monster(spinnaker) dropped on my head as a rain squall blows through. Up until then we were pushing hard to catch up with the opposition; particularly the other two 40.7s.   The day started well will a star and moon filled night surfing the waves- it helps when you can see where you are going. Morning broke, reef shaked out then a few technical glitches the pole up and downhaul parted with the pole with a bang- it’s not just the crew and skipper getting tired. Coyote 2 - Wild Wednesday

We had an amazing 24 hour run to Tuesday lunch time, 210 miles with an average speed of 8.75knots – pretty much the boats hull speed so not too shabby for Coyote II.  It was amazing spinnaker sailing and the 6 of us under skipper Matts expert tuition and only 10 days of sailing together thought we had sussed it – and then wild Wednesday struck! I would love to say that there was a phantom 7th crew member who was here to sabotage our every move or that things broke but honestly we just got struck down by a serious dose of muppetry after getting over excited about how fast we were going and how quickly we would be tasting our first rum in St. Lucia. We hoisted the kite without attaching the clew to the sheet and guy – which provides some challenges in the trimming. read more...

Coyote 2 - Log

The Start The morning of Sunday, 22nd November was much the same as any other in Las Palmas. Our crew was up early dressed, in their smart KA Yacht Charter/ARC polo shirts; but there wasn't a lot to do!  We went off to the Sailors' Bar for breakfast.  Then we topped up the water tanks, stowed the covers and at 1120 we left the pontoon to a cacophony of bass bands, hooters, shouts and cheers. We checked out the start and at 1240 made a perfect start hoisting the asymmetric right on the gun. The crew are still settling into their onboard routine. They found eating dinner in the cockpit out of 'Doggy' bowls a new experience, but eminently sensible. We sailed through the night and into Monday morning 20/30 knots of wind with a preventer and the jib poled out on the other side. The day's run. read more...

Coyote 2 - Log 24/11

Day 2 and another day in Paradise!! The boat ismaking good progress, the sun is shining, and the crew are happy and well fed.We have had dolphins on the bow - what more could anyone ask for? Definitelybetter than catching the 0715 to Victoria station!   It's now time to slowly start introducing our crewto our avid readers. Firstly our skipper - Ken of KA Yacht Charters - Kool Ken,Kalm Ken, Kompetent Ken. Take your pick, they all apply and we are lucky to besafe in his hands.   Doug is our American musician. He gives a guitarconcert each afternoon in the cockpit so we are all learning new songs -yesterday he even sang one about a Coyote!   So dear reader(s?) that's all for today - theskipper is demanding the spinnaker to go back up - watch this spot for more crewprofiles. read more...
