The sun is
shining, the sky is blue, the sea is calm.
We have croissants and coffee and a dolphin show for breakfast. Its a beautiful start to the day! By mid morning a fresh breeze fills the
sails and we relax in the sun and talk and listen to and make music with two
guitars and a didgeridoo. At midday
Peter and Andy make their second attempt at a noon sight (navigation by the sun
using their sextants).
Yesterdays attempt failed because there was no sun and todays attempt
failed because they miscalculated Greenwich meantime. Thank goodness for GPS.
We had Virgin
Cocktails followed by Yaghtage Pie for dinner ( my maritime version of cottage
pie) which we ate out of doggy bowls as the wind started to blow from the
south west in to the evening to give quite a lot of heeling with full sails
out. We are still heading south,
hoping to pick up those elusive trade winds to speed us on our way, Our eight to midnight watch was
challenging as the wind speed picked up in a pitch black night making helming
difficult and uncomfortable for everyone.
Andy said it was like trying to sleep in a tumble dryer and Rich said he
rubbed a blister on his heel from sliding down the bed! Soon after the next watch started the
wind dropped to nothing and we spent the rest of the night with the engine
on. Is this what sailing is all
about?
