This is our third extended family cruise over the past 10 years. It has taken us ten months on this trip to find a watch cycle that works for our crew. The children have grown to take more and more watch responsibility while underway on overnight passages at sea.
As a family of four with Brian age 16 and Lucy age 13 we are all now taking equal shifts of two and one half hours. The rotation remains the same: Dad, Brian, Mom, Lucy. This way we all get a sunrise or a sunset every couple of days. Time zone changes make no difference. There is ample time for sleep, chores, and schoolwork.
