Calypso - Later that week...
Yesterday and Today, whichever days those are!
You get days, where not much really happens, but at the end of it
you find you've been busy the whole time. Well we've had a couple of
those; after all the fish, the leak (drip, not vegetable), polishing
and this and that. And then this morning, peace, a nice steady
breeze, not too much of a sea, everyone either asleep, or sitting
quietly contemplating the morning.
So there we all were, each of us quietly enjoying the morning in our
own way; sleeping, checking the weather forecast, or gazing idly up
into the rigging. And that is exactly what Dave was doing this
morning, gazing idly up at the sails, then not so idly peering at
the leech of the genoa (the leech is what we call the back edge for
some reason, and genoa is our name for the big one at the front),
then...
"err... is that a tear up there skipper?"
"where?"
"there!" (remind you of a song?)
"oh fudge!"
Sure enough, a tear, not a huge one, but with all the potential to
turn into a huge, very unpleasant one if something wasnt done about
it.
There's a short period of digging through the sail repair bag,
pulling out all sorts of sticky back material until the perfect one
for the job is found (fingers crossed), and then a slightly longer
period of contemplation as to how best to get the relevant bit of
sail close enough to the sticky back material for it to be any use.
And the product of all this thinking? Should be obvious really -
send the skipper up the forestay with the sticky tape, a pair of
scissors, and few other odds and ends that may or may not be
useful.
Well we won't dwell on the details any further, suffice to say, job
done, skipper returned to what passes for solid ground in these
parts, and off we go again.
Oh and I almost forgot... we are once again a properly fragrant
ship! Showers all round today, and quite a lot of smiling and
satisfied sighing to go with them!
There's not much else to report right now, and I have to go plan the
porridge schedule for the morning. So I'll bid you a good night.
A Bientot
