This morning, instead of walking, we took a taxi into town and, while enjoying a coffee at one of the cafés, Elaine eventually got caught up on all her emails, WhatsApp messages, Facebook messages, Facebook postings, text messages etc.
We then decided it was time to have a good snoop around the various supermarkets. We were not only pleasantly surprised at how many different supermarkets there are, but at the variety of products they have from all over the world as well as local produce and at a reasonable price. During our reconnaissance we stumbled across an Ace Hardware store, where we had hoped to purchase some electrical bits and bobs we needed for the wind generator, but to no avail unfortunately. We can implement a "workaround", but it would have been nice if we had been able to find the stuff. Oh well. I guess we can't have everything!
Tonight, however, we decided to treat ourselves to a fancy dinner at Paddles, one
of the
top restaurants on the island and we were definitely not disappointed.
For starters we shared fresh Salt & Pepper Calamari as well as a local dish called Samoan Oka which is a fish, in our case, yellowfin tuna, cured in lemon juice and coconut milk and then has various other ingredients added like onion, cucumber, red pepper and fresh herbs. It was absolutely delicious and the calamari was the best we've had in a long time. For the main course Elaine had a seafood pasta dish which was overflowing with calamari, mussels, prawns and mahi mahi. Roy opted for the Pork Belly with various sides. Our "eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs", so we had to skip the dessert and settle for an after-dinner coffee instead.
It was a fabulous meal and we'll just have to go back to enjoy one of their delicious desserts!
