Zaurak - Novice news day 4

Zaurak day 4, Wednesday 6th June 2018

Novice news

Food on this yacht has been an endless success. Take today as an example: we started the day with homemade croissant and coffee; elevenses consisted of tea, Ruth's banana cake and Rolly's brownies (available near you!); lunch is set to be meatballs and Adrian's freshly made bread and dinner is going to be Yael's homemade beef stew. Difficult to say we are roughing it, even with the swell out in the Bay of Biscay.

We still have our hitchhiking pigeons. They say that the devil makes work for idle hands and such was the case when Claire and I tried to pick up one of the pigeons. The pigeon launched into the skies joined companionably by his buddy and have been circling the boat ever since. Much to the skipper's consternation, we imagine they are soon to re-establish their throne on his beautiful, now poop-covered, teak decking.

The morning was marked by the arrival of a school of dolphins. Whilst the dolphins played their games at the bow, the rest of the crew played their games with the cruising chute, in what they assured me was a flawless hoist. As a novice, I have to trust that it takes four crew members, one set of binoculars, an array of shouting and thirty minutes to achieve a flawless hoist.

For the first time today the weather allowed all six (eight including the pigeons) crew to take tea and cake in the cockpit, before Claire and Adrian kicked us out so they could have a peaceful watch. They managed to set up the speakers outside so they are on watch now listening to Graeme Simsion's 'The Rosie Project' on audio.
