So its day seven and we've had a crew takeover. Richard and Alison aren't being held in chains or about to walk the plank but we thought you might be interested in the crew perspective. The skipper has been magnificent in his preparations and execution of the passage so far,so we all know that we are in safe hands. The admiral is clearly very organized with stowage lists, (alphabetical and by location) as well as everything else listed. I sometimes think she must have a list of lists. I'm not saying its thoroughly organized but even the corn flakes have cereal numbers. We have had cake baked for us and fed heartily. She did mention that she hasn't felt herself for the last 10 days but i did point out that this is just day 7. Now I'm just a simple cabin boy. You can call me Roger if you like. Names are changed to prevent litigation. The other two crew include our first aider, who seems to spend his time reading Hornblower books, but more worryingly, i know he bought a set of chisels and a hacksaw before we left and i live in fear of cutting my leg and him in his eager and enthusiastic way deciding it has to be amputated. It cant have helped his mindset that we have nicknamed him 'loblolly boy'. If you thought there were four of us, then you forgot about our final member. His name is Harry the Hydrovane and he works tirelessly. He sits at the back of the boat taking us where we tell him. We don't need to feed him, don't include him in the round of teas and he only complains if we ask him to do the impossible. We know that we've done something to upset him if he just quietly sulks,lies over on his side and the boat doesn't go where we want. He is very good though. So the passage to date has been a mixed bag with no wind at first and us needing to motor, followed by quite a bit of wind needing us to reef several times. With the lighter winds, we have altered course to seek out the best wind and best sailing and so far it has been awesome. There are times when getting from one part of the boat to another is a challenge and cooking a meal deserves a knighthood, but we have risen to the challenges so far as that is part of sailing. There is great camaraderie on the SSB network and a similar mood aboard here as we approach the half way mark which we expect to pass sometime tomorrow. At the moment we have a force 4 to 5 behind us as we broad reach on a direct line to our destination. The sun is shining and we've just had tea and cakes. i could definitely get used to this.
