Luna - First log entry for Luna in Arc Europe 2012
Hi,
Luna and her crew are now ready for the start of the first leg
of the ARC Europe 2012.
It has been a great time here in Nanny Cay Marina where Nønne
and Jørgen arrived 10 days ago so that there would be plenty of
time to make all the necessary preparations for the journey to
Europe via Bermuda and the Azores Islands. Approximately 4 weeks
of sailing ahead (1 week to Bermuda, 2 weeks to the Azores and
finally 1 week to Lagos, Portugal - very rough time
estimates...). And they have been very efficient and worked for
many hours every day.
Preparations have been thorough and Luna is shining from top to
(and including) bottom and inside there is not much room left
where there isn't piled up with food and water supplies or
sailing equipment of all sorts. So, we are very confident that
every possible step has been taken to be as ready as possible.
Lasse (the galley slave...) arrived on Wednesday and there
wasn't much left to do of the preparations. We attended the
official farewell supper, sailed to Indians Head for a great
snorkeling tour and then on Friday did the last shopping.
The last couple of days have offered some very water-filled rain
showers but we have still been able to sit in the cockpit and
talk and laugh, enjoy guitar music (and a few Caribbean drinks)
and tell stories from the past and really relax and have a good
time. But, we have also been blessed with lovely, sunny moments
and not the least plenty of heat :-)
Now, there the start is only three hours away and we can't wait
to take Luna to the oceans. The weather forecast predicts just a
little wind to take off on, but looking further ahead it looks a
little more promising when it comes to the wind we need to fill
the sails and get a good speed.
Tomorrow we will let you know how the start went and if we did
indeed have enough wind to cross the starting line by sail...
