Brizo - Bermuda to USA Day 2 (Sunday) – Supplement
Sunday
has been a frustrating day to some extent, Limey the furling spinnaker went up
1st thing and managed to furl itself back up while being unfurled! so
we had a twist which we had to unfurl with the spinnaker laid all over the deck.
Of course the spinnaker had other ideas and never wanted to stay on the deck so
this exercise took the best part of two hours. We eventually launched it behind
the Genoa and managed to furl it correctly. The other thing we were waiting for
was Lloyd to mail us the Gulf Stream diagram – of course he is a bit
pre-occupied with the new baby at the moment so we did not get that till 13:30.
It’s a
bit of a story as to why we did not have a copy of the current Gulf Stream route
so I will save that for another day but once we had these strong current
diagrams showing the flow and its LAT and Long, we could map that alongside the
latest weather (grib files) to finally choose the optimal route. The problem was
that there is either a long South route that will likely get hit less by a nasty
front moving in on Tuesday or a shorter direct route which is not going to be
pretty by Tuesday. As our flights are currently booked on Friday we have chosen
the direct route, but could pay for it.
So now
its important we get as near to Chesapeake as we can before the bad weather
hits, we may potentially just get over the top of it but its unlikely, tomorrows
weather files will be greeted with much interest.
Other
than this today was calm and sunny although as we head North West the
temperature is dropping so its cold at night. We had Steaks off the BBQ tonight
and I did not lose one overboard ! Tomorrow we will start preparing everything
for Tuesdays weather.
