Not long after our arrival in Povoa de Varzim, there was a call on the radio from
Usquabae of Fife. They had suffered complete engine failure and were approximately 4 miles from the marina. Steve heard the call and immediately offered to tow them in. We had purchased a lot of rope in Plymouth before the rally for our sea anchor so he knew we had enough rope to do the job! He, John and Andrew from the Rally team set off to tow them in whilst the rest of us watched from the Yacht Club. It was very windy out there, so it wasn't an easy job. However, within the hour,
Scarlet Lady had safely dropped off
Usquabae of Fife on a free alongside pontoon and returned to her own berth. By this time, there was 30 knots of wind blowing
Scarlet Lady onto the pontoon and Steve had a battle to keep her from blowing hard onto the pontoon.
After the rescue, Chris and Frances off
Usquabae of Fife and Steve and John arrived at the Yacht Club for a belated supper and received a round of applause from the rest of the fleet. I was very proud of Steve and
Scarlet Lady and have realised that I have married a hero :)
