Seminars and busy atmosphere in final week

With only a few days to go before the start on Sunday, there's lots happening around the marina, on the boats and around the ARC office. With less than ten boats still to arrive, crews are making the most of the activities on the ARC programme.

Last night's Admiral Yacht Insurance sponsored 'sundowner' saw crews gather for this popular nightly event. It's a great way to meet other participants who have just arrived in Las Palmas. Crews from boats with names beginning with letters A-L then enjoyed a Crew Supper at Restaurant Embarcadero, those beginning with M-Z have their crew supper tonight. By arranging a crew supper by boat name, many people had the opportunity to meet crews from opposite sides of the marina, and compare stories about how their preparations were coming along.

The ARC seminar programme continues today at the Hotel Santa Catalina and topics include: rigging, management of emergencies, communications seminar, provisioning and tips for downwind sailing.

The docks are now very busy with crews coming and going and the boats look so colourful with many of the ARC yachts being dressed overall. The ARC is always a great attraction to tourists and local visitors who love to wander around the marina, taking in the sights and sounds of this international event.

Another sunset rendezvous tonight supported by IGY Marinas, owners of the ARC's Caribbean home in Rodney Bay.
