2016-12-2 20.00 UTCTEAM SANYA VO70Finally tonight we will gain the finish. The routing shows less than 60 miles to the finish at the moment. Our last night at sea was quiet, light winds, the clocks actually showed some info and we had stars, as to compensate for the night before, which was the darkest we had had. Today we averaged around 12,5 knots of boat speed and are gybing our way around the rhumline towards Saint Lucia. There were some big showers this morning, of which some of us, including me, made use of as a natural shower to wash up. So relatively clean, my hair washed, some last pieces of clean clothing on, we are ready for the finish, cold beers and rum cola. People are starting gathering their stuff from all around the boat, flight information is coming in and our adventure. read more...

Sanya - Slotwoord Janbart

Het slotwoord en tevens mijn laatste tekstje over de Sanya:In de eerste plaats heb ik dit geschreven met een knipoog naar de boot en zijn "onhebbelijkheden". Natuurlijk waren geen van de onderwerpen die ik beschreven heb onbekend, wel heb ik ze voor de eerste keer zelf mogen ervaren en dan nog wel op zo'n bijzondere reis van Gran Canaria naar St. Lucia. We hebben onderweg zo een beetje alles meegemaakt wat er maar mee te maken valt op zo'n trans-Atlantische oversteek.Mijn collega meezeilers (inmiddels vrienden) Marjet - Lotte - Jacob - Michel - Bas - Matt - Klaas - Eric - Sharim en zwager Alrik wil ik bij deze bedanken voor de mega relaxte sfeer en bereidwilligheid voor elkaar wat te doen. Sanya - Last night at sea

SUBJECT:Last night at seaAfter 11 days, we finally reached our last night at sea. Just a mere 160 miles to go. And finally tradewind sailing, 15 knots, TWA 150, flat calm sea. Easy sailing making good gains in the right directs. A working compass for a change and a clear sky with lots of stars to steer at. The first and mosat easy night so far...Looking back at a crossing with quit some problems where losing all outside sailing information was the most unpleasant one. Breaking your most important downwind sail, twice, cost us a lot of speed, sailing in pitch dark nights without instruments, surely was a different piece of cake.Both has cost us severly on performance, missing important weather gates and losing again. SUBJECT:20161201 Sanya2016-12-1 14.30 UTCTEAM SANYA VO70Optimistic in my last blog, we were a bit further away from Saint Lucia than I thought. During the whole night and day (29th) we keep very light winds. Pushing hard to keep the speed around 0.5 knots above the wind speed and keep going. We heard the position news that the Trifork will probably finish today. This was a bit of a bummer, but the third place is still looking strong at this moment in time. We will keep pushing. Sinterklaas came by to fill the shoes of some of the crew. For some reason the love life of some of the crew was encouraged by the Sint. We had a second trip evaluation, some beautiful words, as the atmosphere is really good on board, and everybody is really happy. There is time during the night for some emotional. read more...

SUBJECT:sanya blogen meer slapen...Het eerste deel gaat van 180cm hoogte naar 150 cm. Het tweede en tevens laatste deel gaat van 150cm naar 135 cm, mijn slaapplek dus. Eenmaal achter in onze grot bedenk ik meteen de beste techniek om er te komen, maar vooral om er weer uit te komen. De keuzes waren snel gemaakt, aangezien er maar twee technieken zijn: Ofwel als een aap (op handen en voeten) of al tijgerend zo als we in onze dienstplicht geleerd hadden. Echter ook deze keuzes waren niet zelf in te vullen, want ik kan je verzekeren, boven de 25 knopen wind zat de 'apentechniek' er al niet meer in! Over de bedjes zelf valt niet meer te zeggen dan dat ze op een brancard lijken, twee aan twee aan elkaar vast zitten en dat je er met een soort heupzwaai in moet zwieren.
