ARC 2025 is just four days away and participants are making their final preparations for their transatlantic sailing voyages from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean.

This is the 40th edition of the ARC and those involved are experiencing some additional elements to the traditional ARC programme as we mark this historic occasion.

40th Anniversary Caribbean Party

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the ARC, participants gathered at the marina for a vibrant Caribbean-themed party. Guests enjoyed rum punch and embraced the spirit of the islands with colourful dress and a lively atmosphere.

The evening was made even more memorable by representatives from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority, joined by members of the Saint Lucian diaspora living in London. Saint Lucian DJ Arthur Allain, based in London, kept the party alive with music from home, adding an authentic Caribbean vibe.

With the start on 23 November just days away, the event offered participants a flavour of the warm welcome and festive spirit awaiting them when they reach Saint Lucia.

The return of the ARC Dinghy Race

The 2025 ARC fleet have fully embraced the social side of the programme, from sundowners to crew dinners, but a standout highlight has been the return of the ARC Dinghy Race.

This exciting paddle race takes place around Las Palmas Marina, with entries from both participants and 13 local organisations and businesses. The public elements of the ARC programme are designed to involve the people of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, many of whom gather to watch the boats depart on start day.

Originally introduced by Don Pedro 'Texaco', the ARC Dinghy Race had been absent from the programme for several years. Its return for ARC 2025 is a key part of celebrating the 40th edition in style.

Final preparations

There’s a palpable buzz of excitement as hundreds of sailors put the finishing touches on their preparations for the 2,700NM journey to Saint Lucia. Participants have been taking full advantage of the World Cruising Club’s seminars, covering everything from safety, provisioning and downwind sailing to navigation and emergency procedures.

For many, completing the ARC has been a lifelong dream, so simply reaching the start line is a major milestone, reflecting months—or even years—of careful planning and dedication.

Once they arrive in Saint Lucia, crews will be greeted with the island’s renowned Caribbean hospitality. For now, though, all focus is on the countdown to the start on 23 November.
